Wörthersee Triathlon

For over 20 years, Klagenfurt has been the triathlon capital of the Alps-Adriatic region thanks to its IRONMAN event. The Wörthersee Triathlon will take place, starting and finishing at Europe’s largest lakeside lido in the picturesque eastern bay of Lake Wörthersee.

The event will take place over the Olympic distance – 1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running – making it possible for a wide range of athletes to take part.

Klagenfurt combines a Renaissance city with all the benefits of Lake Wörthersee and the surrounding alpine scenery. Accompanied by lots of side events for all age groups from juniors to seniors. The start and finish areas are located at the art nouveau lakeside lido in the eastern bay of Lake Wörthersee.

The 1,500-metre swim through the turquoise waters of Lake Wörthersee is followed by a short sprint on land to the bikes, then it’s onward on a 40-kilometre cycle route through the Keutschach valley of lakes. The route has to be tackled twice and takes the athletes along the idyllic, tree-lined Lendkanal waterway and through charming villages such as Maiernigg and as far as Reifnitz, where a demanding uphill section awaits the athletes. A 10-kilometre run along the famous IRONMAN Austria route needs to be tackled on the northern shore of the lake before the finishers can call themselves true “Wörthersee triathletes”.
