What should never be left out on every classic city trip?
Shopping, of course.

In the historical old town of Klagenfurt, which is entirely a pedestrian zone, you are in just the right place. Here you can stroll leisurely between handicraft shops, fashion shops, luxury boutiques, perfumeries, bookshops and excellent department stores. You will find plenty of souvenirs, specialities for the eyes and the tastebuds, old and new, interesting and innovative, and you will also discover two of the city’s important landmarks on the way: the Lindwurm on Neuer Platz square and the Wörtherseemandl on Dr.-Arthur-Lemisch-Platz square. Taking a break to replenish your energy at one of the many restaurants or cafés will round off your stroll, on which you are sure to have found a few bargains. Directly in the city centre you will also find the City Arkaden shopping centre, and a little further towards the outskirts of town, the Südpark, another slightly smaller shopping centre. We can highly recommend the weekly market, the Klagenfurt Benediktinermarkt, to lovers of culinary delights. It is here that on Thursdays and Saturdays, regional farmers from Carinthia, Friuli and Slovenia sell their products – all of them fresh, many from organic cultivation, and all incomparably delicious.

The most beautiful Easter market in the Alps-Adriatic region once again treats visitors from near and far to a magical springtime ambience in the heart of the historical district

Numerous market merchants, direct marketers, performers, eateries and gardeners transform the Neuer Platz into a colorful springtime oasis. Here on the plaza which surrounds the Lindwurm, you find essentially everything you could possibly wish for during the run-up to Easter: traditional and modern arts & crafts made from glass, wood and ceramics, hand-painted Easter eggs and embroidered Easter tablecloths, chocolate bunnies and other mouthwatering sweets, beautiful Easter baskets, as well as tasteful decorations for home and garden.

A festival of the senses, for big and small

See, smell, hear, taste, and marvel. The sight of those giant, beautifully painted Easter eggs, the fragrance of flowerbeds in full bloom as well as freshly baked Reindling cake, and an attractive program certain to appeal to all age groups make a stroll through the Easter market a memorable experience for each and every one of your senses. And when you are done, why not enjoy a drink and a bite to eat at a charming outdoor restaurant or one of the stands serving traditional snacks, all the while soaking up this year’s first warming rays of sunshine.
