September 19, 2020 – September 26, 2020
PELZVERKEHR is a festival for contemporary dance and performance in Klagenfurt – for the local public, for transients and for tourists.
Every year at the beginning of autumn PEZVERKEHR presents an eight-day-program with current positions of contemporary dance and performance. The offer extends from aesthetic confidant to risk and experiment. The program includes performances for children and youngsters as well as for adults from Austria, Italy and Slovenia. Beside the main shows to go and see there will be a site-specific program to participate.
Every year around the beginning of autumn PELZVERKEHR presents an 8-day programme with current positions in contemporary dance and performance. The events range from the aesthetically familiar to risk and experiment. They are aimed at children, young people and adults and come mainly from Austria, Italy and Slovenia.
This year the festival cooperates with the Café im Künstlerhaus, the Jugendstiltheater, the Kunstverein Kärnten, the Stadttheater, Tanz-Etage, theaterHALLE11, the Urban Playground and Wohnzimmer. Through the first-time cooperation with the Klagenfurt City Theatre, the festival period can be condensed, as there are now alternately evening-filling performances in the theaterHALLE11 and in the City Theatre.
The festival programme includes eleven guest performances and fourteen site-specific projects. The events are aimed at the local population as well as guests and are cross-generational.
Guest performances for adults
The guest performance programme shows current positions from contemporary dance and performance and ranges from the aesthetically familiar to risk and experiment. This year four Austrian productions, one piece from Italy and three productions from Slovenia are invited:
• In "Mother Tongue (#2)" Sara Lanner (AT) overcomes language barriers with her tongue as a brush 19.9., 6 p.m.
• Milan Tomášik (SI/SK) researches alternatives to fight and destruction in "Fight Bright" 19.9.,8 p.m.
• Matija Ferlin (SI/HR) questions common theatre conventions in "Staging a Play: Antigone" 22.9., 8 p.m.
• Mirjam Sögner (AT) unmasks body poses as culturally constructed in "Dancer of the Future" 9/24, 8 p.m.
• Sophia Hörmann (AT) unveils in "GLOWING current moods" self-dramatization through techno slides 25.9., 8 p.m.
• Clarissa Rêgo (AT/BR) celebrates in "Bloom" the naked body as vulnerable and strong 26.9., 4 p.m.
• Ana Pandur (SI) combines flamenco dance with heavy metal in "Firebird" 26.9., 6 p.m.
• Ginevra Panzetti and Enrico Ticconi (IT) dissect the Commedia dell'Arte in "Harleking" 26.9.,8 p.m.
Following the 8 p.m. performances, PELZVERKEHR offers artistic talks for the audience.
Guest performances for children and young people
In the morning, three 10 o'clock performances cater to young audiences: Emmy Steiner from the Jungle Vienna (AT) transforms into animal-like creatures in "PIP." (21.9., 4+) In "When is tomorrow?" the collective kunststoff (AT) plays with time (23.9., 5+) and Sophia Hörmann shimmers in "GLOWING current moods" also for young people (25.9., 16+).
The site-specific programme proves to be just as rich as the guest performance series.
Brand new is the Milonga-Brunch (20.9.), which PELZVERKEHR is organising together with important players of the Carinthian Tango-Community. While the aficionados swing their legs in a cultivated atmosphere, those interested can try their first steps without stress.
You can become active yourself in three workshops, all of which are also being offered for the first time. In "Awakening with Dance", each weekday (21.-25.9.) at seven o'clock in the morning, Tina Gressl awakens the spirits with a gentle morning training. In "The Body as Material" (25.9.) Raffaela Gras teaches how to integrate dance and movement into a piece development. In "Flamenco Sniffs" (25.9.) Ana Pandur shows typical head, arm and foot movements, balance, coordination and the characteristic clapping.
For the first time, the young, five-member Klagenfurt "Lindwurm Destruction Crew" will spoil the audience with three gigs under the title "Appetizer Urban Dance" (19, 25, 26.9.). In these, they familiarize the audience with different urban dance styles, such as breaking, funk styles, hip-hop, popping, krumping and wagging.
There will also be dancing in the Urban Lab, the unconventional meeting place for urban art and contemporary culture. Since 2019, local artists* have been providing interested people with hip-hop culture. The programme ranges from dance (BGirling/Boying) to exhibitions (street art/graffiti), music (DJing/Rap/Jam Session) and movement (Parkour/Slacklining). For September 24th the Urban Lab for FUR TRANSPORT has spontaneous surprises in store.
The Carinthian-based company "Hungry Sharks" also comes from the urban dance culture. Within the framework of PELZVERKEHR they are represented this year with the underwater dance film "Zeitgeist" (21.9.). By the way, the film sector is particularly well positioned this year. This is followed by the documentary road movie "A tender joy" by Jérôme Cassou and the dancer Nadia Vadori-Gauthier, who has been dancing for one minute every day since the terrorist attack on the editorial office of the French satirical magazine "Charlie Hebdo" in 2015 (23.9.). Isa Rosenberger judges in the film "
For the first time culinary is a part of PELZVERKEHR. In cooperation with the festival, the cozy café-bar "Das Wohnzimmer" is organizing two lunches, which serve as a place for socializing and exchanging ideas as well as for information and networking.
