At COB – Cooking Outside the Box in Portorož, Filip Matjaž champions a cuisine that challenges traditional notions and reinterprets regional ingredients in innovative ways. Every dish is a multisensory journey: the restaurant’s name says it all. As a fifth-generation member of a family of restaurateurs, he studied Istrian gastronomy and gained experience at top international restaurants. In 2025, he was honored with the MICHELIN Young Chef Award. Together with his brother Patrik—who, as a sommelier, is responsible for the wine pairings—he creates a harmonious overall experience.

A meeting of generations: MICHELIN Young Chef Award winner Filip Matjaž of COB Restaurant in Portorož joins forces with Christian Cabalier, who masterfully blends Alpine and Mediterranean influences at the Kochwerkstatt at Benediktinermarkt and at Osteria Veneta. Together, they will serve a 5-course meal—their personal take on Alpine-Adriatic cuisine.
