Krampus parade, 35th anniversary

If you hear it clattering through the streets of Klagenfurt at the beginning of December, you’re probably on the trail of Krampus. A body covered in fur, a mostly wooden mask with horns and a tongue hanging out, a tail and sometimes claws or hooves.
Old town walk during Advent

Advent in Klagenfurt means: strolling in style, marveling and enjoying – on a walk through the Renaissance old town full of stories and surprises.
Even in winter, the gates to the magical Renaissance city open: in about 90 minutes, the colorful history of Klagenfurt unfolds during this guided city tour – full of winter secrets, fairytale anecdotes and charming insider views of squares, buildings and their stories. An exciting, atmospheric introduction to Austria’s smallest metropolis – every Friday and Saturday at 10:00 AM (as well as on the additional dates listed), whether snowflakes are swirling or the sun is shining!

One floor up, please: After 225 steps, your view extends over the old town to Lake Wörthersee and the Karawanken mountains.
High above the city
Tower guard Ulrike Mießl awaits you at the top. On a clear day, the 360-degree view reaches over the roofs of the old town to the Karawanken. As Austria’s only female tower guard, she tells of daily life above the rooftops and the centuries-old history of the “Tower Guards of Clagenfurth.”
Stories in the tower room
Twice, the tower room becomes a reading stage for children. On Nov 28, children’s author Ulrike Motschiunig reads “Imp Magic in the Parish Tower.” Behind a mysterious imp door, Lena, Felix and the clumsy imp Pim are waiting: to join in, marvel and laugh, for everyone from 5 to 99. Afterwards, books will be raffled off. On Dec 12, Eva Brislinger takes you to a winter wonderland with her “Favorite Stories for Young and Old,” featuring the winter spirit and ice troll, followed by gingerbread. Both readings are included in the tower admission; books can be purchased on-site.

Silent Advent in the Landhaushof
The arcades of one of the oldest buildings in the city – the Landhaus – form the setting for the “Silent Advent”. No other province in Austria is able to capture the special atmosphere of the Christmas season like Carinthia with its carols sung by excellent choirs.
December 23, 2026, 6:00 PM:
A musical pause in the historic Landhaushof – just before Christmas. In the silence of the Landhaushof, the voices of Carinthian choirs sound particularly beautiful, as the acoustics are unique when the Christmas carols drift through the courtyard. Let yourself be enchanted by the beautiful voices whose sounds can be enjoyed during Advent.

Silent Advent in Klagenfurt Cathedral
There will once again be a particularly extensive program around the Cathedral during the Advent and Christmas season. A very atmospheric experience is the morning Rorate by candlelight followed by breakfast together. This old tradition will be continued in the Cathedral from Nov 26 to Dec 25, 2026.
